Torrey Pines Golf Course

The legendary Torrey Pines Golf Course has long been recognized as one of the nation's premier municipal golf facilities. Often referred to as a "golfer's paradise", the Championship North and South courses provide views of the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Torrey Pines Golf Course is located on the coastal bluffs of the Torrey Pines Mesa in La Jolla, CA which is a Southern California coastal community. Torrey Pines Golf Course is about a 20 minute drive from downtown San Diego. Both Torrey Pines golf courses are Championship 18-hole golf courses and are played by the PGA TOUR professionals during the Buick Invitational of California held each year in January or February. Both Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South golf courses provide stunning Pacific Ocean views from many holes making these two San Diego golf courses world-renown, albeit a little over-hyped and often times not in the best of shape throughout the year or a good value with respect to the significantly higher cost to Non-Resident golfers. So double check the conditions before you book as reservations and green fees are paid in advance on a "non-refundable" basis.

Torrey Pines North is the shorter and less difficult course and the green fees are $ 50 - $ 63 per person less than Torrey Pines South. Although the North course will not provide quite the same test of your golf skills as Torrey Pines South, many golfers consider the North course to be a little more scenic than the South - but not by much as both courses have breathtaking ocean views. At 7,227 yards from the blue tees and a slope / rating of 139 / 76.1, Torrey Pines South is an extremely tough test of your golf skills. Fortunately there is a great selection of tee boxes and yardages so golfers of all abilities can enjoy the fabulous ocean views and a great day of San Diego golf at either Torrey Pines golf course.

Rees Jones redesigned Torrey Pines South in 2001 and it was subsequently chosen to host the 2008 U.S. OPEN Championships in San Diego in June 2008.

Fog, rain and wind often sweep the seaside courses, testing even the most seasoned players skill. The golf courses take the "Torrey Pines" name from the indigenous Torrey Pine which is native to the area and to Santa Rosa Island. The tree is distinguished by having clusters of five pine needles.
